Getting Dressed as Mental Medicine

Deliveries of nourishment on my doorstep.

Vogue just declared fashion’s big shift to ‘personality dressing’—but in my world, it’s less a trend and more the norm. My clients already confidently dress in alignment with their personalities.

The real shift I see daily is using your clothes as a stylish salve: a way to lean into the feeling you need, from soothing to energizing.

  • Choosing solid monochromatic looks to invoke calm

  • Picking a bright color to lift your mood

  • Wearing an interesting pattern to spark playfulness or call attention

  • Wearing structured shapes to convey authority and strength

We often recognize these signals subconsciously, but when used consciously, the ritual of getting dressed becomes another form of medicine for our mental health.

A few more behind the scenes from this shoot over on IG.

I’ll never forget Casey ‘Quigley’ of @officiallyquigley letting out an audible “I needed this” as I clasped a by Orly necklace around her neck, completing the first look of our photoshoot. It wasn’t just about the outfit—it was the act of getting dressed, of polishing the shiny, and perhaps dull part of herself, that landed deeply.

That’s why I believe getting dressed is much more than “playing dress up.” It is an act of self-respect.

And yet, for many of us (myself included), working from home blurred the line between showing up and simply existing. Living day after day in what I call “comfy clothes” can play cruel tricks on your mind. It reinforces that nagging voice: “There are more important things you should be doing than putting on makeup and getting dressed.”

But here’s the truth: what you put on each morning doesn’t have to be about impressing others. It can be about caring for yourself—using clothes to steady, energize, or simply bring you back home to who you are.

If this hits ‘home’ with you, I’d love to help you discover your own version of “style as medicine.” My work is about creating outfit formulas that feel like home while also expanding your possibilities—so that getting dressed becomes the easiest and most nourishing part of your day.

Your girl,

Katie
